Another fun day with around a dozen during the course of the day, both regular members and some guests.
The new layout in the Nook enabled us to have plenty of space for two big games side by side all day. We managed to fill all the tables with games to choose from at the start (and I know we all still left plenty of games at home!), made our initial selections and then cleared the decks ready to play.
We also had great support as usual from Travelling Man, who gave us their Tabletop Day box of goodies and lent us some games to test (we have deferred Takenoko and Catacombs until the next Monday night session, as we didn't get round to them today). The box of goodies included all sorts of random things, from extra game pieces for things like Castle Panic and Zombicide, to figures like Batman and a shark! Also some other games, including a taster for a card & app version of a puzzle room, called Unlock! and something odd called GAME that is essentially a way to house-rule games in a structured way. There were also a couple of play mats and many other things.
I started with Paul (shadowelf ) and Julian, playing the German-language "Die Fursten von Florenz". Thankfully Paul had English translation rules and it was a really fun game, well played by all and a close call on points with me just pipping Paul to the post with a final bonus card that just nudged me ahead.
Marcus, Val (val ), James (jhales), Steve (steve ) & David (ds94) played Dead of Winter: The Long Night alongside us, but I'll let them talk about that below.
Just at the crossover point as these games were ending, Dean (zumi) joined us and Julian had to leave. Paul and I were joined by Marcus, Dean and Steve for Tales of the Arabian Nights, a story-driven trek around the world trying to complete quests, gain treasures and generally survive. There are skills and wealth to gain (or lose), destiny and story points to increase (or decrease) and all manner of conditions to be applied (both positive and negative) to your character. The story elements are frequent and play out a little bit like choose-your-own-adventure, with the player being able to modify the outcome slightly and choose how they react to the scenario. Fun, if a bit random.
David, James and Val were joined by another guest player (I'm not sure of their name) for card game Smash Up.
Thanks again to Sanctus 1 for their support of the group, along with Nexus for hosting and Travelling Man for promoting and supporting us - do visit them often to buy games and comics and the like and just for a quick chat, they're a lovely bunch
Feel free to add your own experiences below!SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave
