Well, that was a busy month - welcome to Dave, who joined us for the first time and brought us up to 12 gamers this time.
Val, Kieran, James H & Paul O embarked on a game of Gloom. Paul won with -105 points, Kieran and James came close to each other (-85 and -80 points respectively) and Val's gaming family were positively chirpy with 0 points!
James, Kieran and Paul then went on to play a quick game of 7 Wonders, with Ho arriving in time to stand in for Val who needed to go home at that point. Not being gloomy must have given the upper hand, as Ho won that game.
Meanwhile, the other table hosted a big game of driving game Formula D, with 8 players! Going for the advanced rules involved playing as a character (each person having different starting statistics) and taking wear points from different parts of the car (bodywork, tyres, brakes, engine, etc) for the various perilous situations we were to encounter. Just to make sure things weren't too easy, we playing on the difficult street racing track. Screeching round corners too quickly, knocking into each other's cars, bumping over debris on the road, getting shot at from high rises and buzzing the police station as fast as we could were just a few of the thrills of the game. Paul C car off the track first as a result of a collision and Dave came off next after overshooting a corner. Nathan won the game, flying over the finish list in 6th gear with a maximum dice roll of 30 (effectively 300mph!), swiftly followed by Marcus, Paul J, James, Matt and Steve.
We then all shuffled around a bit, with Paul O & Ho having a go at Agricola: All Creatures Big & Small, Paul taking the win on that.
Paul J and I played Boss Monster (including the cards from Boss Monster 2), which has great artwork in the style of old 8-bit platform games and lets you play as a Monster creating a dungeon trying to be the first monster to get to kill heroes to the tune of 10 points. It was good fun and I encourage you to give it a go sometime.
The rest went into 3 rounds of Spyfall, fast becoming an end of evening favourite. Dave was most unfortunate, drawing the spy card on each of the 3 rounds and being found out each time.
I look forward to seeing some of you back in Nexus for International Tabletop Day (Saturday April 30th, from 11am to 5pm - you can stay all day or just bob in whenever) and the rest next month. Happy gaming!
