Our Christmas games night was another busy evening, with 14 in attendance, including 3 new people (Kath, Sophie and James - welcome).
I wasn't able to keep track of it all, but I think I've managed to gather in all the games and results.
I was playing Robinson Crusoe all night with Val, Paul C and Steve. It's a quality ZMan Games product that has you working together to survive one of any number of scenarios. Ours was to build a bonfire to signal a passing ship (not as easy as it sounds). There's the usual balancing of resources to do, randomness to certain elements, decisions over which tool to make or whether to build shelter (and how sturdy to make it), who goes without food if you didn't gather enough and so on. We all really enjoyed it, it's got a good theme and quality components as well as a variety of scenarios to play through to give it some longevity. I recommend you get Steve to guide you through it if you're not familiar. We took the whole session up (overran by about 15 minutes, actually), but managed to get rescued just by the skin of our teeth - all 4 characters were down to their last wound.
Another table had Paul J, Kieran, Alex and Frances playing some new games. Initially Splendor (won by Kieran), then classic co-operative game Pandemic (won by the game - it's a hard game to beat first time out...or second time out...but worth the persistence). Finally Vigyaz(z)6! aka Category 5 aka Take 6 (...?...) was won by Francis.
The third table had Paul O (the Paul's like to spread themselves out to avoid confusion!) & Kath, Hou & Vicky, Sophie & James. They initially played through Ticket to Ride Europe (with Vicky taking the victory) and then moved on to eventually crown Hou as the King of Tokyo.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and get to play some games in it all
