November games night was another busy month with a dozen players enjoying eight games during the evening. We were also joined by 4 new players, so welcome to Alex, Francis, James and Kieran.
It was an evening of trying our new games. Val broke out her new purchase, Parfum, while James and Laura gave their new game, Revolution!, an outing. I tabled my new Dead of Winter game too. It was also an evening of quick playing games, as James and Laura introduced James and Kieran to Machi Koro; James and Kieran then joined Alex and Francis for Fluxx and Love Letter, while James and Laura were joined by Paul for Timeline and Trans Europa. In contrast, Dead of Winter continued its wintry march throughout the whole evening.
Parfum is new out this year and unsurprisingly has a theme of creating fragrances - using set collection and dice, players use ingredients to distill essences to combine into unique perfumes that have to satisfy customers. Revolution! is a game that Steve Jackson released to his fan base 6 years ago - it uses secret bidding to increase money, force and blackmail abilities that in turn aid players in gaining control and victory points. Dead of Winter was released only last year and pits a team of survivors against hordes of zombies (nothing new there) - the twist comes with the survivors having to work together to keep their safe haven safe and their fellow survivors alive, but there might be a traitor in the midst...
As usual, everyone seemed to enjoy the games they played. I think it's nice every now and then to be able to play through quite a few games in a short session - it gives a great sense of achievement. It's also always nice to share a new game, so thank you to everyone for sharing your games with us all. I know that the 4 of us playing Dead of Winter enjoyed the theme, the game mechanics, trying to keep our survivors alive (not that easy) and the challenge of needing to work together while trying to find out who the traitor is (not every game has a betrayer, but you'll never know until you're betrayed!).
To round up the winners, we have: Alex - Parfum; James H - Revolution! and Machi Koro; James H, Laura, Paul J - all won a round of Timeline; Kieran - Fluxx and Love Letter; Paul J - Trans Europa; Dead of Winter beat Matt, Paul C, Steve & Nathan, as none of us won our individual objectives and collectively we didn't complete the colony objective either!
On another note, keep your eyes peeled for another long games day being set up - although they take a little bit more organising, they seem to work
