Firstly, welcome to our new home. I hope you like it and that together we make it an interesting and fun place to be. It's a chance for you to get more involved if you wish - feel free to reply to threads with your own views and responses, and to start a discussion of your own in the members-only Board Game Discussions forum.
As for this months game night, we had a great time. Lots of new people, some who had visited us around International Tabletop Day (easter), others coming along for the first time. In total we had a record 15 gamers! It felt great to see several games all going on at the same time - a great atmosphere in the cafe We hope those new gamers had a good time and will be back for more - if you've joined the forum and are reading this, welcome!
We ended up with 3 tables on the go, so I can only report first hand experience of one of those... I must have similar tastes to Paul O, who brought a number of games I have in my collection at home. This is a good thing, as it meant Paul also brought a game I've been after playing for ages! Lords of Waterdeep is a Dungeons and Dragons inspired game - where the roleplaying games focus on character's adventures, this game is a bit like the management of that. You play a Lord of Waterdeep and use a mixture of adventurers completing quests, owning buildings that bring special abilities and playing intrigue to gain victory points during the game, along with trying to maximise a secret objective to score on completion. It was easy enough to get into and to play - all 5 that participated enjoyed it and would happily play again. I was also fortunate enough to win, so thanks for bringing that Paul
Another table was led by Paul J, who guided three new players through classic games 7 Wonders and Medici. We've played both a few times before at NGG, the former a civilisation building game and the latter a trading game. New gamer Ross won 7 Wonders and Paul won Medici. We had some good discussion afterwards about some other favourites like Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, etc. May be an idea for a Board Game Discussion - if someone wants to write a profile or two of some of the more well know game designers (like Alan R Moon, Vlaada Chvatil, Reiner Knizia, etc) for people to discover and explore more of that designer's games... or a quick overview, like a top ten designers list...
The third table had flexed between 3 and 6 players at varying points of the night. Starting out with dice-rolling monster game King of Tokyo, Paul O won the first game and it sounds like after a tough fight Val was victorious in the second game. It sounded like a lot of fun was being had over there! Thanks to Dave who brought Munchkin - another classic, but one we've not got round to playing in NGG to date. Dave had to leave before the end, but was kind enough to leave his copy for those remaining to finish - Dave, I have it and will bring it to the next games night for you It seems Paul O was having a good night and won that too, well done Paul.
If you were there and want to tell us more about the games you enjoyed (or didn't) and why, please feel free to reply to this thread with your comments.
We will next meet on Monday 9th November - look out for the calendar event for that. For members, there's an extra event on Saturday October 31st where we will spend the day playing a longer game - that's on the calendar already.
See you soon,
Matt
