Just to record the results:
I beat Steve and Valerie at Luxor. Steve beat me 2-1 in the Splendor series. The team beat the Chthulu mythos even though they didn't stop the monster arriving . (What is the name of that game? I get them mixed up). Lara won at Love Letters.

Elder sign with one of the expansions, though im not sure what it was called. We were doing so badly at preventing the elder god arriving, 3 elder signs out of 10 at the end, but we just beat down the god like he was nothing which makes me wonder why we were so afraid of letting him come out to begin with

Thanks for the write-up We played Elder Sign with the Omens of Ice expansion. That adds a little extra story element to the base game by having a specific set of adventure cards (i.e. the location cards) that tell a bit of the story and progress the story of the arctic expedition you're all on. The game also introduced the concept of a stage I and stage II set of locations, so there was an element of the first half of the game being more focussed on tooling up your characters and the second half about gathering elder signs. I just don't think we made it very far into the second half before the ancient one arrived! But as zumi said - it was a clear beatdown of the ancient one (Rhan-Tegoth, average difficulty, but the easiest ancient one in that expansion), so we obviously did something right A lot of fun, but I still think a smaller group is better, mainly just so you're not waiting as long to have a turn (even though it's co-operative and everyone helps each other).
